Two weeks!?!

How has it been 2 weeks since I blogged? Here's what I've been up to:

Last weekend I went up to Dulles, VA and scrapbooked with 10 girls that I've known online for 2.5 years. It was a TON of fun and I came back wishing we all lived closer together.

Mom and Dad called the other night. The rain we'd been having in Raleigh made the national news, and before the news was over my phone was ringing. Some things never change. :) We told them the planned baby name, and Dad thought it was cool (he's planning to call him TJ). Mom is all bent out of shape that we're not using Eric's dad's name in there anywhere. She urged us to "rethink" that so I told her we would (otherwise I'd never have gotten her off the phone). She also said they plan to send us $$ toward the baby furniture in January, which is great - so generous. She also said that she is sending stuff for my in-laws as a thank you for taking care of me while I'm pg. She cracks me up.

Friday night we had dinner at Casa Carbone - Eric's aunt and uncle were in from Richmond so we all went out - YUMMY! Also saw my coworker Shelley there, hee hee! Dinner was delicious.

And yesterday, we headed to Babies R Us to complete our registry. Eric set it up weeks ago but we had zero items on there. We had no idea what we needed, and I wanted to walk around the store and look at the items. Eric studied the Consumer Reports book too, so we had an idea of what specific items we wanted for the big stuff. While we were looking at the travel systems, we were told the one we wanted was also in the clearance section, and they were offering a discount on the clearance items. It had been a display model, so I thought it might be banged up from people looking at it and trying it out, but it was in REALLY good shape, and for $100+ off was a deal we couldn't pass up. So now we have a stroller/car seat.

We also set up a registry at Target, since I love that store, and we also know that Target is easier for people to find that BRU. It was all done online, and we'll probably add more things there too.

Last night we headed over to Eric's parent's house for dinner with everyone and we hung out, and also had a YUMMY dinner. Eric's brother and kiddos came over too (his wife was out of town) so it was fun to see everyone. We took Aggie over with us and she had a great time running around with Bugsy (in-law's dog). She is still tired now.

Today's Sunday and Eric is at work. I'm planning a run to the grocery store, and then gonna do laundry and finally unpack my stuff from last weekend!

Yesterday was also 19 weeks. We registered at a day care, so we have a confirmed spot for next July. We toured 3 facilities, and the last one was the best. Felt right to both me and Eric, came highly recommended from several coworkers of mine & Eric's, and just fit the bill. We actually had a 4th one lined up to tour and cancelled it since we both felt this was the right place. So thats one more thing off the to-do list. I'm feeling pretty good, and have gone from feeling flutters to more pronounced flutters. Nothing I would call a "kick" yet, but about once a day I'll feel these much bigger flutters a few inches below my belly button. Still get ravenously hungry every so often too. We have a check-up this week so hopefully all will go well there.

So, that, plus work, is what I've been up to the last two weeks!

haven't blogged in a long time!

Will post an omnibus update post in a second, but here's a quick recap:

- work is still nutty :)

- We are having a baby! Due date 4/10/10, it's a boy and his name will be Tyler John. 17 weeks so far, 23 to go.

- Aggie the pup is almost 8 months old. She's a great dog and we love her a ton!

So here's what's been going on this weekend:

We met up with Ed & Kristen for lunch yesterday - so fun to get caught up with them! Kristen and I are going to do some shopping today - yay shopping!

We had zero trick-or-treaters last night. Which is par for the course in this townhome community. It's mostly singles and young couples, not many kids. No ToTers is good since I hadn't bought any candy, and running downstairs to the front door all evening didn't seem to appealing.

Aggie has some sort of rash going on. We spent a lot of time in the garage yesterday cleaning up/throwing out stuff that I'd held on to for WAY too long, and I think something in there must have irritated her skin. She had some redness around the eyes, which has gone down, but is still red around her nose and on her chest. We're keeping an eye on her.

So we spent yesterday in the garage, and then moved almost all the stuff out of what will be the baby's room. Eric's computer desk is now in my scrapbook room that we are now sharing. I'm going to run to Babies R Us today to get one piece from the bedding collection we like (Pop Monkey) so that we can match paint colors and hopefully get that done in the near future. My parents have graciously offered to help us with the baby furniture, so hopefully we'll get that purchased soon and have the room all ready in plenty of time for the arrival.

I had so much old stuff to toss. A lot of it had been moved and moved and moved and should have gone a long time ago. It was fun to reminisce, and I found a couple of names of past coworkers that I have looked up on Facebook to see if I can catch up with them.

We were thinking about moving, but we've decided to stay put. We could probably get out of this place for what I paid for it, but it would be tough setting up a nursery while trying to sell. And renting this place would be a good option but we'd need to have a lot of money set aside in case of vacancies. So, although we saw many wonderful houses where we could probably make a great deal, we've decided to stay put for the time being, and pick up the search again next Spring or Summer.

And the other thing on the horizon is minivan shopping. Yes, you read that right, we'll be one of those families who buy a minivan for one child. I've never been in love with my Civic, and would love to get back into a small SUV again, but a minivan is cheaper, bigger, and gets better gas mileage. Plus all the conveniences of getting easily from backseat to front and vice versa, being able to cart around us plus baby, baby gear, and others if needed...and it seems like the right thing to do. No specific timeframe, but we're keeping an eye on Carmax's inventory of Toyota Siennas and Honday Odysseys.

Next weekend I'm headed to Dulles, VA with my friend Stephanie to meet up with a bunch of our friends and scrapbook all weekend. Hooray!! Should be a ton of fun and I'm excited about meeting these girls that I've known online for years.

4th of July report in!

Thursday, July 2:
got a lot done at work, then we had a work happy hour. One of the guys we work with got a new position (actually a spot in a 2 year management appreticeship program), so we did Happy Hour for him and almost everyone showed up. Great turnout, a lot of folks that left over the last 6 months came by, and people were there til way past 8 pm when I left. Shelley and I rode together and I mentioned my friend Krystyn is doing a half-marathon in March of next year in Orlando. Although I'd love to sign up, I just can't plan that far ahead, and Shelley mentioned a half-marathon in November in Raleigh. I'm seriously thinking of signing up for that. I will walk the majority of it, but still! I mentioend it to Eric and he's thinking about doing it too. Although he's thinking about not traiing for it which I think is a little nutty. My friend Jill is going to do it too, so that's very cool!!

Friday, July 3:
Had lunch with Mary Elizabeth (friend from Junior League) and then she came back to the house to meet Aggie. After that I went to get a manicure & pedicure. The place was mobbed, so it took forever, but I'm glad I got that done. Eric has some gaming friends in town so he met up with them and they are gaming tonight at his friend Paul's house. We have a BBQ to go to tomorrow over there. So he was occupied with them most of the day. I met up with his parents and Joann (aunt) and Bill (uncle; they are both siblings to his mom) who are in town for the Mustang show (Bill and Eric's dad Mark have Ford Mustangs in the show) here. Went back to their place and watched a (not good) movie called Crossing Over.

Saturday, July 4:
We went by the Mustang show and saw Eric's family there. It's pretty amazing that the Ford Mustang has such a following, and also so many variations on the car. Then we came home and gathered up the dog and headed to Clayton to Eric's friend Paul's house for the party. Paul and his wife Andie have a beautiful home, with a horseshoe pit in the backyard, a huge gaming room (on a separate electrical circuit, he kept turning the circuit off up there so people would come outside to socialize), and he rented a camper for a few people to crash. They cooked a pig on the grill (a bona fide pig pickin'), and had some fireworks to set off which was fun (glad Aggie can't hear). Also, one of the guys brought a beautiful 80 lb Akita, and Paul and his family have 2 6 month old Akitas. It was nice to meet his friends tha he games with and their families, too!

Sunday, July 5:
Today I went to the Apple store to get my phone checked out, and then went by work. They did a full restore on the phone, and that plus 30 minutes on the phone with tech support appears to have fixed my problem. What was going on was on email I would get an error message and nothing seemed to fix it. It would check email fine, but I had to do it twice, which was just annoying. The guy on the phone had me unlock something and now it works. Laundry is going and I'm getting ready to settle in and do some work.

Road Trip to Ohio!

Eric and I have been off work since last Thurs to head to Akron, OH. He's usually off on Thurs & Fri, and doesn't go back to work until next Sunday! Anywho, we took off Thursday morning on the road to Akron, OH to spend the weekend with my friend Julie. Her son, Jacob, graduated from high school and this weekend was the graduation party. Our friend Michele also came down from Canada too! I've know Michele and Julie since 1999, and Julie and I have met up almost every yeaer since 2001, but I'd never met Michele n person, and I was really looking forward to this trip!

We got on the road at 9 on Thursday after loading up the car with all the necessities - including a ton of dog stuff (toys, crate, bed, food, water, and more toys!). It took longer than expected to get out of NC, but other than that the drive was pretty uneventful. Aggie took about an hour to settle down and sleep, and after each stop (3 total) it took her less time to get settled in again. Happy to report that she travels well and there were no accidents in the car!

We got to Julie's house around 6:15 pm (and picked up the package that was sent there for me; long story, but thanks to Julie for letting me redirect it there!!!) and visited with Julie and her family for a little while. Then we headed to our hotel. We had to stay at a hotel about 20 minutes away because it was the closest pet-friendly hotel. It was a Sheraton Suites and not at all what I pictured....It looked like a normal hotel, and I guess I'd expected doors that open outside (motel style). It worked out GREAT though, having a suite meant that Aggie could be set up in the living room and not get used to sleeping in our room again. It was kind of a long walk to get outside for potty breaks for her, but it worked out just fine. And the hotel had wi-fi, a mini-fridge, 2 TVs, etc.

Friday morning we had room service for breakfast, then headed over to Julie's to go pick Michele up at the airport. Eric & Aggie hung out at Julie's house (with her hubby and 2 sons; they all got along well!) while Julie and I headed to pick up Michele. Once she arrived, we headed back to Julie's and hung out/got caught up. Fun fun! Julie's family came over that evening, and we had some beverages on the patio. The tent went up for the festivities on Saturday and a few other prep items got checked off the to-do list. It was also great to see Julie's family - her mom, sister and family, and her brother and his wife (with a baby on the way).

Saturday Michele, Eric and I met for breakfast then headed to Julie's around 1pm. We helped with party-prep and then it was time for the fun to begin! It was great to meet the other members of Julie's family - her hubby's sisters/brothers, nieces, nephews, cousins, and an old coworker of Brian's (who's son happens to work with a friend of mine from high school -small world!!).

And then it was time to head back to NC. We hit the road by 8 am on Sunday and Aggie slept the entire way home. She was tired after all of the attention all weekend long. Everyone thought she was the cutest thing - and gave her lots of love and attention. We found a shortcut in NC that got us home about an hour earlier than expected so we were home by a little after 4pm on Sunday.

All in all, a fabulous trip! Next time, we'll fly, though!

Random thoughts from May

* having a dog is a lot of work
* there is nothing better than coming home from a long day at work to a dog that is happy (thrilled) to see you
* pretty sure Aggie the pup is deaf. Confirmed at the vet today
* won't cramp our style too much though
* she's now sleeping in her crate on the 2nd floor and doesn't put up a fight going in there anymore
* she loves puppy playdates with Uncle Bugsy (Kay & Mark's dog) and Sniffles (Amanda & Rob's dog)
* and after said playdates will sleep thru the night and then some
* she is fearless when it comes to meeting other dogs, including a beautiful 150 lb Great Dane
* still making good progress on potty training
* in other news, work is crazy busy and will only get busier
* I've become obsessed with the game Farmtown on Facebook. It's dorky, I know.
* it's been a fun month - scrapbooking, lake time, pedicures, sushi, movies, doc appts, cooking out with friends (again this wknd too), playing cards
* I'm still debating Twitter. I've been on board since it was in Newsweek many years ago, but lately have been following more "celebs" just to see what's up..for personal news, I use Facebook. So, then I started just reading Twitter, and posting my updates directly to FB. We'll see how this goes.

...and that's about all that I know!

Dog Days, episode 2

So in the continuing story of Aggie....

...we took her to the vet Monday and she's all healthy! They went ahead and gave her the next round of shots, and said she's healthy (and cute!). We got her started on heartworm preventative, flea preventative, and she's clear of worms in her poop. She's right at 6 pounds now, too.

...She has the potty training thing down pretty well, except she doesn't really like the whole rain thing. Over the past few days we've gotten tons of rain, so she's had to get used to it, though. She tries to get to where you can block the rain for her, which is pretty funny. She met a couple of neighbor dogs (from afar since she's not fully immunized) too.

...crate training is another story. We've made some progress - she can stay in her crate while I shower and get ready and seems to yell for a little while and then calms down, but try and leave her in there overnight and all hell breaks loose - she yelled for TWO HOURS the other night. So we've given up on the idea of her sleeping on the 2nd floor at night (in her day crate) and have had her sleeping in the pet carrier crate in our bedroom. That's gone really well, she snoozed HARD last night and didn't whine much at all. She almost slept thru the night, but we got her up aroun 3:30 am to go potty. So, apparently we'll be a 2-crate household. :) I had a doc appt yesterday and was gone for about 2 hours (did some errands too) and she was snoozing pretty hard when I got home - I opened the crate door and she didn't even notice. So, like I said, we're making progress. Eric's home Thurs & Fri and I suggested to him that he go and see a movie or something to get her used to spending time in the crate.

...she's gotten braver with the cats and will chase them around. She's gotten stairs figured out and will chase them up the stairs. They run into the bedroom and she stands at the baby gate upset that she can't get in there! Hail will wait til she gets w/in a few feet of her before hissing, so that's progress too.

Dog Days, episode 1

So we are now a dog and cat household!!

Eric picked Aggie up at noon on Friday, while I was at work. He sent me text message saying that Lightning was being very inquisitive, and that Hail took one sniff, turned tail and ran upstairs. This was the opposite reaction from what we'd expected; Hail is usually the brave one, Lightning is usually shy.

Friday night Jill came over and got to hang out with the puppy. Aggie took a liking to her, and we also had yummy Pei Wei and played Sequence (which was really fun!). Good times!

Friday overnight was rough -Aggie definitely likes being with people and does not take to being alone. Eric slept downstairs with her for a few hours then we put her in the crate and she whined and whined and whined. I ended up getting up at 6 and took her out, then stayed up from there. She seems to go in cycles, 1 hour or so of napping, then about 30-45 minutes of playing. That was about all we did on Saturday. Nick, Kristen, and Aiden came by to meet Aggie (great to see them!!!), and Eric's parents did too. We went to dinner with then (wings, yum!). This was her first time alone in the house in her crate, and I guess it went ok. She whines a lot, and we're working on getting her used to the crate. So far no accidents except one small one; we're really working on potty habits (after sleeping and after crate time).

Eric's parents suggested letting her sleep in our room, so we decided to give that a try last night. We got one of the cat carriers set up and it seemed to work out better. She got up twice during the night (potty breaks) but went back to sleep w/in a few minutes of getting back in there. Still up early 6:45 this morning.

So far today's been a lot of nothing. Lots of naps, including a couple of long ones, and she had more alone time when I made a run to BJs and Target. She sure can get to yelling though...I left her on the couch and was in the kitchen for a few minutes and she made SUCH a ruckus, I'm a little worried about the first day when we're at work and she's alone for hours at a time.

So - so far so good!! More to come!

Cats - not so smart!

* In preparation for Aggie's arrival (Friday noon), we put up a baby gate so the kitties will have our bedroom as their "safe haven" (at least initially). We moved thri food into my bathroom too, so the puppy won't eat it. They ate in ther emore than once on Saturday, but Sunday morning still hovered around their old food area for hours. Not so smart, kitties!

* I went to see little Aggie on Saturday. WOW does she have some sharp teeth, and like to bite stuff - my shoes, my feet, and my ankles were popular. Added dentabones to the list of things to get at Petsmart!!

* Finally switched out my closet this weekend - spring stuff is IN, winter stuff is all put away. I also took a ton of stuff (50+ pieces) to the Bargain Box to donate. Also made a run to Kohl's for more work pants - found those plus some cute tops too - yay!

* work is continuing fun!

* I'm on vacation next Mon, Tues, and Weds - hooray!! I've got a few random appointments, and will spend a lot of time getting Aggie situated in her new home.

Well, that's about all I've been up to. Have a great week!

Sunday, April 19, 2009

Happy Sunday!

Well, its been another couple of weeks and few things have changed.

* Work is going well - busy, but it's all good. The last two Fridays my peers, my boss and I have taken some time out to have fun and it's been very amusing.

* Aggie the puppy is SO CUTE! We went to see her yesterday and took her and all the puppies out to the backyard. They were all very cute running around in the grass and playing. We tuckered them out, so they were all ready for a snooze. Which worked out well because we took one of our doggie beds over there to stay there for the next two weeks (this was an idea of mine!). This will get a ton of familiar smells on it, so that when she comes home in two weeks it will smell familiar to her. I was pretty pleased with my idea, I have to say. And the 4 tired puppies all crashed in the bed. Funny how dogs LOVE dog beds, but cats have no interest in the same. We need to get dog food, a collar, a leash, chew toys, and a couple of food bowls. TWO WEEKS!!!

* Speaking of puppies, my friend Amanda got a puppy Saturday. He's a Pug, and we went to see him last night. He's adorable!!! Just from the little time we spent you can tell he's a strongheaded breed, so they're going to have their hands full soon. But he's adroable!!! He's got fluffy puppy fur and that little squised up face. too cute!! Amanda & Rob have 2 cats too and it sounds like the meeting of the species has gone well, so I hope we have the same luck in 2 weeks.

* Amy and Adam are getting a new dog next week too. From what I gather, she's 9 months old, still a pup. Between us, them, Amanda & Rob, my friend Lisa back home, and the Obamas, there are puppies EVERYWHERE!

* I went to a surprise baby shower yesterday for my friend Tammi. It was a lot of fun and she sure was surprised!

* we are going to Ohio this summer to celebrate my friend Julie's son Jacob graduating from high school. Which really throws me because I remember him as way to young to be graduating from high school!! Very exciting and should be a fun trip, and not only because we're planning to take Aggie with us. Booked a hotel this weekend, too.

* Speaking of kids growing up, I caught up with my friend Cindie last weekend via phone. She's been super busy with her work, so it was nice to get caught up with her. Her daughter is about to start drivers ed this summer and again, I can't beleive she's going to be a driver soon!

* funny how I have friends with kids that are graduating, starting to drive, or becoming teenagers and here we are thinking about babies! EEK! (yep, it's been 6-8 months since the wedding, so we're starting down that path. Wish us luck!).

* We had a good easter - easter dinner with the Haywoods/Grays was a lot of fun. We had a kids egg hunt in the backyard, and an adults egg hunt in the front yard. Fun fun!

* Got some exciting news from a friend last night that I have to keep quiet, but it's still exciting!!!

how did it get to be April??

...and where the hell is spring?? Over the last few weeks its been cold and wet and yuck! I'm ready for spring to arrive!!

Not much is going on here. Aggie the puppy is growing - I went by to see her last weekend and she and the other puppies are mobile. I personally think she is the cutest of the bunch. Jill (owner) is gonig to have a handful over the next few weeks as those puppies find their way around!! Work is going great - busy, but good. Went up to Richmond last weekend for Rachel's baby shower with Kay - quick but lots of fun on that trip! Am enjoying AI this season. I talked to my parents last night and they are doing well. Dad still hasn't gotten cable yet but is still talking about it. My uncle has been staying with them for a while now and is looking at a few job opps across the country so we'll see how that turns out.

Friday's a stock market holiday so I don't have to work - hooray!! Not sure what we're going to do Friday, but Saturday I'm meeting up with Kristen for coffee, then I think we're doing easter dinner w/Eric's family - his grandparents and aunt are coming down from Richmond. Not sure what is up for Sunday but Eric's off (yay!). and then it's back to work on Monday!

2 weeks away and that's all I got...and this is why I say I have the most boring blog in the world!!

Friday, March 27, 2009

By the day:

Saturday: we had a delicous dinner w/Jen, Alex, Josee, Matt, and Tammi at Casa Carbone. This was the same restaurant where we had our Rehearsal Dinner and it was delicious!

Sunday: the usual grocery shopping, gym, etc, but I didn't clean the house like I normally do. I cleaned the 3rd floor and 1st, but didn't get to the main floor. I am not sure what got in my way of that, but I'm guessing it was TV and the internet.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: the usual work, gym, Idol (so glad that guy went home!!), Grey's Anatomy, plus a bit of preparation for a day of vacation today. Also got an invite to a baby shower up in Richmond in a couple of weeks - should be fun!

Friday: I'd planned a vacation day for Friday since I'll be scrapbooking all day tomorrow, this way I could still spend a day with Eric. We went to see the puppy (SO CUTE!!), got some lunch, and have been hanging out all day. I just finished getting my scrapbooking stuff all packed up for tomorrow's scrapbooking all day and all night.

We're having a .... puppy!!!

We will be welcoming Aggie, a female brindle boston terrier, home in 6 weeks or so - hooray! We went to meet the puppies on Saturday and we're really pleased to meet the owners, the mom, and the other puppies. We put a deposit down, and will bring her home around the first of May. We are starting to collect puppy supplies - bought two puppy gates online, and Eric's parents gave us their smaller crate. We have another month plus to get the other things we need (collar, leash, food bowls, bed). Although it will be a lot of work, I'm excited about having a dog. Should be quite an adventure! Pictures are on Facebook.

That's the big news from the last week. Work is going fine, scrapbook class was a lot of fun, GH night at Shelley's was tons of fun, dinner at Ed and Kristen's was tons of fun too!! Last night we had folks over (since Grant was in town) for Rockband night - tons of fun! Pictures to come....

Today I'm headed to a doc appt (routine annual stuff), then work, then the gym. My crazy two weeks of schedule madness are about over, so it will be good to get back into a routine!!

new laptop!

I'm blogging from my new laptop that arrived on Tuesday, and whoo hoo is it nice! I really like it. My old one was an ultra-portable, so it had a relatively small display. It wasn't as small as the netbooks out nowadays (it was 3 years old), but it didn't even have an internal CD drive; that's how small it was. Anywho, this new baby has a 16 inch monitor that is widescreen - whoo hoo! Plus it's faster and swankier and newer! And, it has a numeric keypad, which is kinda cool...

Not much else has been up here. Eric's been sick for a few days but I think he's on the mind. First it was migraine, then a stomach bug. The one good thing is he was home to sign for my laptop when it was delivered and got it all set up for me! I did the iTunes and My documents part but he got it running and on the network, and will be installing Office soon. One of my old coworkers was in town for work - great to see her!

I just got in a little while ago from meeting the girls for sushi and had a GREAT time! It's been really neat to develop a group of friends here and I'm so thankful I've found them!

Tomorrow's jeans day at work, then we're going to Ed & Kristen's for dinner (YAY!). Saturday we're going to meet the new puppies, and that night we're going over to Shelley's for Guitar Hero night. Sunday Eric's going to work and I'm going to clean the house. That didn't get done last Sunday like I'd planned. Monday I'm taking a class at Jen's house, and then Tuesday we're having Rockband night here in honor of Grant being in town.
I swear I had something really to post about, but I can't remember what it was. I'm sure I'll figure that out as soon as I hit 'publish'....

A first!

I went ice skating (or as Josee & Matt call it, "skating") yesterday for the first time ever. I grew up in Texas and we don't have much ice skating there..."skating" is roller skating, which I've done my share of. Anywho, I fell down once, but was able to make it around the rink more than once! It was actually pretty fun and I would do that again. Easier than I thought it would be to stay vertical on those skinny blades, but I kept getting hung up on that thing on the front end of my skate...maybe next time I need the style that doesn't have that. Jill took pictures; can't wait to see them!

After that, we went over to Josee & Matt's (beautiful) home for dinner and Rockband. We had a great time all around!!

Other than that, the week was a busy one. We went over to Adam & Amy's for Noah's b-day on Monday, I had Junior League on Tuesday, and then work was busy all week long. I was really ready for Friday.

My laptop shipped last Thursday. I thought it might be here quickly, but then I looked at the tracking site and realized it's coming from China. I've been tracking it's journey and it went from some random city in China, to Shanghai, to Anchorage, and just left Anchorage. So hopefully it will be here soon....

And now it's Sunday.....was up super-early due to the time change, and am just vegging while watching the news. Will get moving in a bit - laundry and such before heading to the gym around 10. Then I'm going to clean the house and make a Michaels' run -- they have Cricut cartridges on sale - hooray! I got two gift cards for my b-day that I am dying to use, so I will be heading over there later today. Then I'm headed to Jen's house for Craft Club and cropping; should be fun!

over the last week or so...

Here's what's been going on:

- We are on a puppy hunt. Been toying with the idea for a while, and we think we're ready. The cats? not so much. But it will be fine. :) We want a female Boston Terrier and I've been looking at want-ads and such. No luck at the SPCA, they seemed to have all medium-to-large dogs or puppies that grow to be that size. Anywho, we have 3 prospects - (1) set of puppies that should be born this week, are the closest, and the lady is good to work with; just have to wait til they get here to know if they have any girls, (2) 3 girl puppies about 3 hours away that can be weaned in a couple of weeks, (3) Boston Terrier/Min Pin mix puppies that favor the Boston Terrier, 4 girls, past Wake Forest. So...we will see how this turns out! Stay tuned, hopefully for lots of puppy pix!!

- it snowed AGAIN here in Raleigh today. This morning they'd said we got 2.6 inches, and I'd just like to say this is not the weather I signed up for!! The roads weren't bad this morning on the way into work, nor on the way home, but tomorrow could be different since it's supposed to get down to 15 tonight. I miss the days I worked in Implementation and could have worked from home on snow days. However, weather should warm up by mid-week, and then it'll in the 70s this weekend!

- We orderd a new laptop for me last week. Found a great deal thru our employee purchase program and it should be here next week -yay!

- we celebrated Noah's 10th bday today. Great to see the rest of the Haywoods, plus Amy's family!

- We had two of Eric's coworkers over for Rockband the other night. Our original microphone died (that was quick!) so I went over to Gamestop (in the rain and cold, ick!) and picked up a new one plus a mic stand.

- Work is going well - busy, but good. We got a little surpise the morning I had to go to the doctor, and that's been keeping us busy over the last week or so. That plus market activity are keeping us hopping!

- Met up with some girls from work for girls night out last Saturday. We'll keep the details hush hush (girls night pact) but I am looking forward to doing it again soon!

- and that's about all that I can think of for now. Here are some snow pix to bring this to an end...

Birthday 2009: Awesome!!

Had the funnest birthday this year!!!

Thursday: We went over to Amy and Adam's for dinner and birthday cake. Amy made yummy taco salad and we had dinner and cake with them and the kids. They got me a Michael's gift card and a cute monogrammed notepad and matching luggage tag. We brought our Rockband stuff over and played that for a while with everyone. Fun stuff!!!

Friday: At work, my team brought in munchies and an ice cream cake - yum!! I left work early (yay!) and came home to clean the house before everyone came over. My parents sent me a beautiful flower bouquet and I talked to them on the phone. Eric's parents and Ed & Kristen got here around 6:30 and we ate Pei Wei, had ice cream cake, and played Rockband. More fun stuff!!

Saturday: slept a ton, got up and did some stuff, took a nap, and then we did a couple of errands. We met up with 5 other couples for dinner : Jill & Dan, Amanda & Rob, Josee & Matt, Jen & Alex, and Tammi & Scott. This was our monthly dinner club and we had Thai/Vietnamese at Lotus Leaf - YUM!!!! Jen casually mentioned that their house was just a few minutes away, why don't we all go back there for some Rockband (see, we're not the only ones!!) so we agreed. Once we got there, we headed downstairs to their basement, where the new giant TV and all the gaming stuff lives. Next thing I know, Jen and Tammi are coming down the stairs with a cake with candles!!! Surprise!!! I had no idea but apprently they had been conspiring with Eric on what kind of cake I like. And man, this was GOOD CAKE. YUMMO!! And such a surprise! So, we rocked out for a while, and then somehow the subject of cards came up and next thing you know the girls are in the other room playing spades while the guys are rockin' out. Too bad we had to call it a night early since Eric had to work today; it was a really fun nigh!!

some photos...

Lunch Friday - decided to make a run to Moe's!

I forget where I got these - some sort of work promotion - and I only kept a few of the word magnets - the ones for words I really liked:

My long-awaited Cricut Expression - happy valentines day and birthday from my sweetie!

and Happy Valentines to my sweetie! Got him (us, really) this plus some gaming stuff he wanted.

and he grilled yummy steaks for Valentine's Day dinner. I wanted to stay home for dinner since going out on Valentines can be more of a pain than it's worth.

Not much else is up in my world. Had to work on Presidents day for the first time since 1994!! This year I support a client that has an agreement in place that we will work Presidents Day but be off on Thanksgiving. Works out fine for me. We had jeans day, and brought in pizza for lunch. I ordered 24 pizzas from Papa John's for us and they even threw in a free one for us! I got to scoot out a little early, and came home ot hang out with Eric who had the day off. We played a little Rockband and I scrapbooked some too.
Tues and Weds were rather normal days - work, gym, dinner, AI. I'm starting to get excited though...my birthday is Friday so I've finagled my way into leaving early, and we're having people over for dinner and (what else) Rockband. Should be fun!!
And then, Saturday nigth is Dinner Club with 5 other couples - should be really fun!! I have a Junior League thing on Sumday.
And, I scheduled a random vacation day for Friday 3/6. I'm not sure what all I'll do during the day, but that night I'm croppingat Jen's house. Since I haven't been to a crop in a while, I figured I'm due!! So I'll be right at her door when 6pm strikes, lol!
happy hump-day y'all!

weekly post

I seem to only update y'all weekly, huh? Better than nothing I suppose!

Let's see...what's been going on since we last met?

Sunday was consumed by The Search for Rockband 2 for the Wii. After our totally fun night at the Burnap's last weekend I thought Rockband would be a great Valentines' Day present to Eric (and me!). Also thought it would be easy to find - boy was I wrong there! Ended up unsuccessful after checking 2 Best Buys, a Gamestop, 2 Wal Marts, 2 Targets and Circuit City. So, upon the suggestion of my friend Jen I went online and found it at BarnesandNoble.com and used a gift card (which basically paid for expedited shipping). It arrived yesterday, we opened it today, and have rocked out a bit already! Also went to my first month of Craft Club at Jen's house which was very fun!

The work-week was as usual, with a few fun things (tours, audits, and other fun like that) thrown in to keep me busier.

Had Junior League on Tuesday night and rode with Mary Elizabeth. It was nice to get caught up with her too!

Last night Eric went to a friend's house to game, and I met some friends to see "Shopaholic" over at Brier Creek. Cute movie - not cinematic genius, but not bad. Afterwards we headed over to Trali for drinks and some man at the bar bought us our first round - for all 8 of us! We had a great time chatting and I got home around 11:30ish. Oh, and, Trali is 1.1 miles from our house - cool, huh??!

Today we got up and Eric told me I could finally play with my Cricut (HOORAY!!!). I let him open his presents. He was happy about Rockband and his other gifts so yay for that... we got Rockband all set up and played a little.  Although I still can't sing, it's really fun. I impressed him with my knowledge of ALL the words to "La Bamba". Hee hee - that was printed in the Fort Worth paper many moons ago (no clue why) and it stuck in my head. And I remembered that my favorite magazine as a teen was that one that had all the words to songs in it (so prehistoric now with the internet...) - I think it was called Song Hits?

We went out to Best Buy today to get Eric a doohickey that makes the internet go thru power outlets. We have a 3-story townhouse, and the internet comes into the first floor scrapbooking room...by the 3rd floor the signal is pretty poopy, and that's where his desktop computer is, so this will help him a lot!  Ate lunch, got some groceries, and then we came home and I scrapbooked while he gamed, then he cooked me a DELICOUS dinner - shrimp and steak. I made his grandmother's broccoli cheese casserole, too.

And that's whats up here! I've got some pictures to upload but will do that tomorrow!

Rockband photos, sock photos, and catching up....

We went over to the Burnaps' house last night and hung out with  a ton of work friends. We played Rockband (TOTALLY FUN!!) and had a great time. I was even coerced into singing (after much refusal) and check out my results:

this is Eric singing:
and Melinda, Chris, and Kim rockin out!!

Earlier in the day we met up with Ed and Kristen and Nick and Kristen and Aidan and went to the New Car Show in downtown Raleigh. It was so much fun - and I now want a Mazda 3 hatchback. We saw one there that has *everything* I want!! It was fun to get to sit in all the new cars - Toyotas, Mazdas, and Volvos were my faves!

We also went to the gym yesterday and did a few different machines from what we normally do. I am sore today after all of that, but still plan to head to the gym for some cardio today.

Friday was an uneventful day at work. We had a layoff on Tuesday that was pretty significant - we lost several managers in NC and between NC and TX, I lost count after hearing about 30 people I know were impacted. Its so sad, and the rest of the week was spent recovering from that. The only good thing is the company has a good severance package, and I have ways to keep in touch with a ton of the folks that are now gone (thanks to Facebook!!).

Eric bought my birthday/valentines day present on Thursday - a Cricut Expression. I am SO EXCITED about it - the girls in my scrapbooking group convinced me that I need one, and AC Moore had a great deal this past week. The hitch is he won't let me play with it until either my b-day or v-day (he is still deciding).

And he made me yummy jalepeno cheese bread on Friday!!

Here's my photo of the day for Friday - fun socks!!

sorry for the blur

this is a really blurry pic of the gym, taken while I was walking in today. Yep, 2 days in a row, and today (get this) I did treadmill (because all the ellipticals were taken, and it's good to change things up, no).

your input please

This is the outfit I wore to work yesterday...like I mentioned in my FB status, I'm not 100% sure that it matched. Oh well. :)

catching up with...

Oops, so I've fallen a little bit behind here...Let's see - what's been going on here?

- today was super-busy at work, and then we made it to the gym after a week's hiatus

- yesterday we had some of my coworkers over for Guitar Hero night. TONS of fun!!

- Saturday we drove up to Richmond with Eric's parents to see his family up there, and celebrate his grandparents' 60th wedding anniversary and his grandfather's 85th birthday. All the kids, grandkids, and great grandkids were there and it was really nice. Too bad we forgot our camera, and the present. (Just emailed everyone for copies of pix, and will be mailing their present this weekend).

- Friday after work I made a mad dash to the mall to get the anniversary present (the one that was forgotten above!)

- Aside from the new president stuff, the rest of last week was fairly uneventful.

- Eric lost his wedding ring in the snow but after purchasing a metal detector, he found it (hooray!!). Best $64 ever spent!

25 Random Things about me

Rules: Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you.

(To do this in Facebook, go to "notes" under tabs on your profile page, paste these instructions in the body of the note, type your 25 random things, tag 25 people then click post.)

1. I'm an only child
2. My mom is from Japan. She came to the US in 1963 and still speaks fluent Japanese. I do not speak Japanese.
3. My dad is from Ohio
4. I was raised buddhist and although I don't actively practice anymore I still hold the basic life philosophy
5. I LOVE my iPhone and just recently upgraded to unlimited text messaging

9. Definitely want to have more than one child because I am fascinated by the sibling experience
10. I love me some Starbucks!
11. I really hate smoking. If you smoke, I don't hate you, but have a strong dislike for all things smoking. Probably because both my parents smoked growing up and I hated it (still do!).
12. If I could drink one thing for the rest of my life it would be Diet Coke
13. Eric and I recently joined a gym and try and workout every night after work

Weekend @ Topsail - what a great time!

This image is courtesy of my friend Tammi - so glad she got pictures of us hard at work at the scrapbooking retreat this weekend!! And a wonderful weekend it was....

The House: was a 4-story beach house right on the beach. From the back patio we could see the ocean (where we saw dolphins playing in the ocean). The first floor was the front door and garage, with an elevator...second floor was 4 bedrooms, 3rd floor was kitchen, living room, a bedroom (and this floor is where most of us spent all of our time), and then the 4th floor was another bedroom with a hot tub outside.  The house had great amenities too - elevator, wireless internet, TV, DVD player, comfy beds, etc.

The people: 13 of the girls from Cary Table Scrapps, a scrapbooking group I met on Meetup.com. These were GREAT people to spend the weekend with - fun, not too serious, great cooks (we had more than enough food for a full week I swear!), diverse, so helpful, social chatty, just a wonderful group of women I am so glad I found!

The plan: Jen thought of all the details - from planning an affordable weekend, to encouraging carpooling so that we had just enough room in the driveway for our cars, to how to make sure we were all fed (snacks and meals), to a fun secret pal event, to a really fun scavenger hunt, and a few other events, the weekend was FABULOUS and I can't WAIT to do it again this fall!!

Yesterday I drove home, and then did next to nothing all day. Sat on the couch and watched TV most of the day. Today I have some errands to run, will meet Jill for lunch, and then need to clean the house. I'll meet Eric @ the gym tonight after he gets out of work, and then it's back to the grind tomorrow, Inauguration day!!

Blogging from Topsail

This is all (or most) of the stuff I packed up on Thursday night so that I could hit the road bright and early Friday morning for Topsail.

...and this is a small section of the table in front of me (my work area) at Topsail. Having a great time, wish you were here! This house is GREAT - 4 stories, with an elevator, and all the ammenities you need (including wireless internet!).  And a great group of women to hang out with too!!

So far I finished the Honeymoon album (ran out of paper and got almost all the pix in there!), and layouts about Christmas. Not sure what I'll work on tomorrow - we'll see!

Project 365 - yesterday and today

This is my girl Hail resting her tired little head on my laptop. The picture is actually from a few days ago, but I'm counting it for yesterday because she does this regularly!! (and, hey, it's Project 365, not Photo a day!)

This is the weather app from my iPhone for this week. Do you see what I see? 17 degrees F?? That's just not right!!

Not much up in my world other than the cold to report. I'm leaving Friday morning to go scrapbooking for the weekend at Topsail Beach with the cool girls from meetup......can't wait! I'm sure there will be fun pictures from that...13 girls, beach house, hot tub, scrapbooking, adult bevvies....

Five Weird Things at the Gym tonight

1. the guy on the elliptical next to me was sweating so much he was dripping all over. Not just the usual dripping occaisionally, but continually dripping. Ewwww.

2. a girl on the front row of cardio was talking on the phone while working out. For like 35 minutes.

3. a guy on the 2nd row was thrown off his treadmill. Not just trip over one little foot and scoot off, but make a lot of noise where everyone looks at you thrown off.

4. The girl next to me (too the place of sweaty-guy) hit me w/her jacket sleeve and didn't even realize it.

5. the treadmills were so in-demand that there were people hovering more than once waiting for people to get off.

today's picture to come... :)

Monday, Monday!

This is the cute make-and-take project we did at Jill's open house yesterday:

And this is what I'm doing tonight:

Have a great week!!!

Project 365 - 1/9/09

dorky looking picture of me and my new glasses!!

Thursday, January 8, 2009

one day, two pictures!

Today was a not-bad day at work. My glasses came in so I made a run at lunch to pick them up. Got a few things done at work, and scooted out just after 5 to head to the gym. I'd packed my gym bag in the morning, as usual, but I did it in a rush as I was heading out the door this morning (instead of the night before like I should). I get to the gym, get all dressed, and realized I'd forgotten my shoes. Yeah, those ones there on the top? They were still sitting in that position on the living room floor (where I'd left them the night before). So I had to get all my stuff back together and head home. And of course I didn't want to get re-dressed in my workout clothes, so I walked out of the gym with my work shoes and workout socks (a lovely picture on the bottom, no?). Tried to talk Eric into going back with me but we decided to call today our skip day and go tomorrow.

I'll post a picture of me and my new glasses tomorrow! They are so cute, I feel like I need to do my hair better each day now....

Wednesday, January 7, 2009

Two days worth!

- Had a Junior League meeting last night so didn't have time to post....

- the photo at the right is Eric's Aero Garden...his Christmas present from me :)

- I've had a annoying cough for almost a week now. Last night I tried Nyquil that didn't help much, so Eric got me some Robitussin and I'm going to give that a whirl tonight. I would like it to go away before it turns into a full-blown cold. And then maybe I could get a full night's sleep too.

- I love Facebook. It's so much fun to see what friends and family are up to!!

- Here's today's photo - taken a tip from Tini, I took a shot of my desk at work. I blocked out the desktop, but please take a moment to admire my giant monitor. :)

- I got an email from Allan (ex-hubby) today - exciting news! He and Jamie (his gf of 2 or 3 years, I can't remember) are engaged! AND, get this, his fiance? Her sister and I went to high school together! I'm hoping he can help get me back in touch with Beth, that would be cool!!

- also got an email from my friend Cindie, so fun to catch up with her.

- Ok, i'm off to order wedding photos now, I promise!!

Project 365 - 1/5//09

Super busy at work today - then to the gym - then I talked Eric into getting salads for us for dinner. Chick Fil A salads are so YUMMY! Probably not as good calorie-wise as they sound due to the chicken and dressing, but I'm guessing better than a Chick Fil A sandwich and large waffle fries.

(PS: No idea why this photo is loading in portrait, rather than landscape, I've tried twice and I'm tired).

Usual Sunday - with a twist!

Today was the usual Sunday for me - Eric went into work, and I did the usual run to the gym, lunch, errands and such. Eric's parents stopped by to pick up some stuff, and I watched the usual Sunday morning chit-chat shows (with a bonus 30 minutes of George S!).

The twist was I met the girls (pictured below, my pic for the day) - Jen, Amanda, and Jill - to see Marley and Me. It was a really cute movie, total chick flick and total tearjerker if you've ever had a pet! We walked over to the Fox & Hound for appetizers and bevvies afterwards:

And its back to the grind tomorrow!

Project 365 - 1/3/09

Today I made it back to the gym after not going 12/31, 1/1 or 1/2. HOORAY!!! I was worried that it would be totally crowded, and while there were some newbies (listen to me like I've been going to the gym forever!), it wasn't crowded at all. Probably because it was around noon on a Saturday, but anyway, I listened to a few podcasts (my FAVE) and got 45 mins in on the elliptical. And I'm going back later today too.

We had a really good Saturday. Kristen came over and went with us over to the eyeglass place where Eric got his adjusted and I ordered a pair of new glasses. Eric has AMAZING insurance and it covered the vast majority of the cost (HOORAY!) and my new glasses are cool. It was great to have Kristen there as she is good about giving her opinion (LOVE YOU KRISTEN!!). Eric is good about that too but also gets bored. :) Anywho, I got some cute Kate Spade frames and can't wait til they are here next week. [sidenote: to longtime friends, many of you know I had Lasik many years ago. Apparently my eyes have reverted somewhat to their old astigmatism-y ways, although not anywhere near as bad...and these glasses will also help battle the eye fatigue I get from staring at a computer screen all day long. And glasses are cool nowadays, lol!]

From there I had my gym time, then Eric and I went out for Thai for lunch. Well, he had Thai and I had sushi, it was delish. There is this restaurant that is close, slightly overpriced, good food, with horrible service. It's so close and the food is good, otherwise we wouldn't go there...my favorite place is awesome but about 30 mins away. Funny, back in Dallas I wouldn't bat an eye about a 30 minute drive......

Eric and I did some errands - BJs, and a few other places. Then I went on a search for a 2nd Guitar Hero guitar for us since we were having Ed & Kristen over to introduce them to the fun that is Guitar Hero. I found one at Wal Mart in a beat up box, one at Gamestop for $70, and a ton online for up to $80. Then I found one online at CircuitCity.com for $20. Seriously. I snagged that and did in-store pickup and scored the guitar for a GREAT deal!!!

We had SO MUCH fun with Ed & Kristen and Guitar Hero last night. Ed is pretty good, and although Kristen thinks she's bad at it she's better than me. Pictures to come on FB......

Happy Saturday!! :)

Project 365 - 1/2/09

Today was a really long day at the office. Yep, I had to work today. Financial Services folks were apparently the only people in the world that had to work today as even the federal holiday folks were off. Anywho, between all the work stuff, that caused me a few choice words, I got the funniest text message ever

For those not familiar with the user interface on the iPhone's SMS app, the phone number is up at the top - this is an unknown number to me. The messages in white are from that person, and my replies are in green.

My favorite line, which I quoted several times later that day, was "who calls u penguin baby?". Penguin - not my first choice for pet name....LOL!

In other news, I talked w/a friend of mine back home and we're talking about doing a girls weekend this spring - whoo hoo!!
